The charm of Sifnos is admired in everyday, little things; cobble-stoned alleys and traditional stark-white houses overlooking the Aegean. The medieval settlement of Kastro stands out with its unique architecture, strategic topography, and a stunning view of the sea. The narrow cobbled streets, the old elaborate houses with wooden balconies, the ancient columns used as decorating parts on later buildings, the small, fragrant courtyards and the picturesque chapel of "Eftamartyros" perched on the cliff, make up a fantastic stroll in this village. Apollonia, the capital town of Sifnos, is built amphitheatrically on the hill and has a beautiful Cycladic aura. The simple yet sophisticated adornment of the houses offers a unique aesthetic value to the village. Walking on its paved streets with whitewashed walls, you will find many shops to buy souvenirs, jewelry from local silversmiths and traditional Sifnian ceramics.
Do not forget to taste local delicacies in restaurants and taverns, lying around the alleys. Artemonas, the largest settlement of the island, is called by many “the jewel” of Sifnos, with its picturesque neighborhoods, the old windmills, and a breathtaking, panoramic view to the sea and the neighboring islands. Walking through its paved alleys is a unique experience, as you may admire some of the island's most enchanting, old mansions, surrounded by beautiful gardens.
